A Room with a View
1985 romantic comedy directed by James Ivory based on a novel by E. M. Forster.
This is a beautiful period romance with a superb cast including: Helena Bohnam Carter, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Julian Sands, Daniel Day Lewis and Denholm Elliot. The film centers on the “forbidden” love between Lucy (Carter) and George (Sands) when almost everyone pushes her toward the more “appropriate” match with Cecil (Lewis).
Not only is this film an Oscar winner, it is thoroughly engaging and beautiful. This is an awesome film that I highly recommend. Please note that this movie contains some adult content.

Haywire
2011 Thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh
This is my favorite kind of thriller; it has a kickass female lead. Gina Carano plays black ops soldier Mallory Kane. She realizes she has been set up by her employers, led by Kenneth (Ewan McGregor). What follows is the run for her life climaxing at the home of her father (Bill Paxton).
Kane is driven by duty, then survival, and finally vengeance. Carano is perfect in this lead role. I am not sure McGregor truly brings enough “bad guy” to his portrayal as the antagonist. Channing Tatum (as Aaron) is very convincing in the intricacies of his role.
I enjoyed watching this film a lot. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but I liked it.

The Raven
2012 Thriller directed by Jame McTeigue
This is a very compelling thriller because of the interesting storyline dealing with the last days in the life of Edgar Allen Poe. It stars John Cusack whose portrayal of Poe is exceptional. The film also stars Luke Evans and Alice Eve.
Evans, a detective investigating murders that copy the many stories of Poe, enlists his help to stop the killer. Alice Eve portrays Poe’s love interest, Emily Hamilton.
This film is interesting in its subject matter and the cast provides a stellar performance. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of thrillers or Poe or both.
